XLS files use the BIFF (Binary Interchange File Format) to store worksheet data, formulas, charts, and formatting. XLS files have a maximum of 65,536 rows and 256 columns per sheet, and a file size limit of approximately 32 MB.

XLS is an editable binary spreadsheet format with formulas, macros, and structured data. JPG is a compressed raster image with no editable content.
